Privacy policy

In short: Web Page Monitor keeps everything in your browser. It has no account and no server of its own, it does not collect analytics, and it does not sell or share any data.
What the extension stores
Everything below is saved only in your browser's local extension storage (chrome.storage.local) on your device:
- the monitors you create: page address, name, the block you selected, check interval and status;
- the text of each watched block or page: the current version and the version before the last change, so you can see what changed;
- a few settings, for example whether you have already answered the rating request.
This data never leaves your device unless you export it yourself to a file. Removing the extension deletes it.
Which sites the extension contacts
Only the pages you chose to monitor. To check a page, your browser downloads it directly from that site, the same way it does when you open the page yourself, including your cookies for that site, so pages that need you to be signed in can be checked. Nothing is sent to us or to anyone else.
Some pages draw their content with JavaScript, so the downloaded page alone does not contain it. Such pages are opened in an invisible frame inside the extension (no tab or window is shown), and the page's own scripts run there, as when you open the page yourself. The extension reads the text of the block you chose and closes the frame.
Site icons are shown from Chrome's own icon cache; the extension does not use third-party icon services.
Permissions
| Permission | Why it is needed |
|---|---|
| Access to a site (asked per site) | To download the pages you monitor on that site and to let you select a block on it. Access is requested only for sites you choose. |
storage | To keep your monitors and the saved text of pages on your device. |
alarms | To run checks on schedule. |
notifications | To tell you when a page changes or a monitor stops working. |
scripting, activeTab | To show the block picker on the page you are viewing when you click the extension icon. |
offscreen | To read the text of downloaded pages in the background, and to open pages that draw their content with JavaScript in an invisible frame. |
declarativeNetRequestWithHostAccess | Many sites forbid being shown in a frame. The extension lifts that restriction only for its own invisible frame, only on sites you gave access to. Your normal browsing is not affected. |
favicon | To show site icons from Chrome's own icon cache. |
What we do not do
- No accounts, no sign-in.
- No analytics, tracking or telemetry in the extension.
- No selling, renting or sharing of data. No ads based on your data.
- No use of data for anything other than the extension's single purpose: telling you when a page changes.
This website
This site uses no cookies and no analytics. It is hosted on Vercel, which, like any web host, may keep standard technical logs of requests (such as IP address and browser type) for security and operation.
Changes to this policy
If this policy changes, the new version will be published on this page with a new date.
